Dinesh Karthik believes the 2023 World Cup final between India and Australia will not be a high-scoring one and the conditions will likely favor the chasing side in the game. The cricketer-cum-commentator gave his assessment of the pitch prior to the title clash, and made some bold predictions about the outcome of the contest.

Dinesh Karthik makes bold claims on pitch

Indian commentator Dinesh Karthik is of the opinion that a team batting second in the World Cup 2023 final will be more suited for a win. The cricketer cited dew as one of the biggest reasons behind the same, and stated that a team batting first should aim to put big runs on the board.

Despite favoring the chasing side, Karthik further claimed a captain winning the toss will more likely opt to bat first. As it turned out, his claims were put to rest by Australian skipper Pat Cummins, who decided to bowl first upon winning the toss.

The Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium hosted four World Cup 2023 fixtures prior to the India vs Australia title clash. Chasing sides emerged victorious on three of those occasions, while the team batting first secured one win, back when Australia trounced Ashes rivals England on November 4 after scoring 286 upfront.

Regardless of venue’s past records, Rohit Sharma blazed through Australia’s new-ball attack to provide his side a sizzling powerplay start on the big day. His partner Shubman Gill, on the other hand, mistimed one off Mitchell Starc early in the innings to pave way for number three Virat Kohli.
