Pakistan's newly appointed red-ball cricket coach, Jason Gillespie, has identified a lack of consistency as the main issue facing the team ahead of their upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh in August.

This comes after Pakistan's battle to win in every format since the ODI World Cup in India ended last year.

Gillespie Identifies Lack of Consistency as a Key Challenge

Reflecting on Pakistan's recent performances, Jason Gillespie, emphasized that despite these positive moments, the team's inconsistency remained a critical problem.

"During the last tour to Australia, Pakistan lost the series 3-0, but they played well. There were moments in the series where they were also dominating the opponents."

Gillespie further added that this inconsistency has plagued Pakistan, contributing to their defeats in both white-ball and red-ball cricket

"The Pakistan cricket team is very talented, but the lack of consistency in performances is the main problem. We will see how we can bring continuity and consistency in performances.”

The red-ball coach acknowledged that this focus on fielding aims to address the issues of dropped catches and misfields that were evident during the T20 World Cup 2024.

"There is a general opinion that Pakistan's fielding is their weak point, so that would be my priority. For me, the goal is to see how we play against quality sides."

Gillespie highlighted the importance of player fitness, and he is in discussions with Shan Masood, Pakistan's captain for red-ball cricket, and Gary Kirsten, the white-ball coach, to manage players' workloads effectively

The Pakistan cricket team is currently engaged in a red-ball training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi.

This camp is crucial given Pakistan's busy schedule in the World Test Championship cycle, which includes nine Test matches during the 2024-25 season.

Pakistan's Test series against Bangladesh will begin on August 21 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with the second Test scheduled for August 30 at the National Stadium Karachi.
