‘I’m At War’ – Shakib Al Hasan's 'Fierce' Remark On Angelo Mathews ‘Time Out’ Debate

Plenty of reactions came all across the world since Shakib Al Hasan appealed for ‘time out’ dismissal for Angelo Mathews after the latter took more than three minutes to face his first delivery after walking down in the middle at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday. While Mathews’ delay was due to his helmet issues, Shakib did not show any sympathy and kept his appeal intact.

The result was quite expected, as the on-field umpires gave Mathews out in a manner that has never happened before in the history of international cricket.

During the post-match presentation, Shakib was questioned about what was going through his head at that precise moment. The veteran all-rounder first revealed that it was one of his players who let him know about the rule, and so he did. Furthermore, he was unwilling to rescind his appeal because it was legal.

"One of our fielders came to me and said that if you appeal now, he'll be out. Then I appealed, and the umpires asked me if I was serious or whether I was going to take it back. It's in the law. I don't know if it's right or wrong," Shakib told the host broadcasters after the match.

In addition, Shakib boldly declared that he always feels as though he is in a war when he takes the field. Hence, he will be happy to accept any remarks or arguments that are made due to his doings.

"I was at war, and I had to decide to make sure my team won. Right or wrong, there will be debates, but if it is within the rules, I don't mind taking those chances. That (alternation with Mathews) helped a bit more fight. I'm 36, and normally fight doesn't come easily, but happy it did today," he concluded.

Bangladesh will play their final World Cup 2023 game against Australia in Pune on November 11.
