Heading into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Australia were already labeled as one of the favourites. However, since the commencement of the competition, Team Australia under Pat Cummins have looked down and out, losing both their matches against India and South Africa, respectively.

Now, ahead of the crucial tie against Sri Lanka today, former World Cup-winning Australian captain Michael Clarke has claimed that Australia will drop skipper Cummins for the Lucknow encounter.

Speaking on Big Sports Breakfast, Clarke revealed that team management will do another blunder dropping Cummins, much like they did with leaving out Alex Carey against the Proteas, and that the keeper should not be in India.

Here's what Clarke revealed

"I heard last night that Pat Cummins is not going to be selected for this game. We've dropped our wicketkeeper... who is one of the most important people in your squad. So he got one game and got dropped."

"Now there's talk we're going to drop our captain. If Alex Carey is only given one game, he shouldn't be in India. They shouldn’t have taken him. If Pat Cummins is going to get dropped and not captain the team, then you guys have selected the wrong captain."

Cummins has managed just one wickets in his two appearances this WC, and will be hopeful of improving his game moving forward. Carey remained benched against Sri Lanka as well, with Josh Inglis donning the role of the keeper.
