Famed West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is set to retire after the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, there is also a caveat to this. If the team requires his services, the player intends to continue playing for the national side.

Andre Russell returned to the international fold after the team decided to call him up for action. Though he is not the exact player he was years ago, he put up a Man of the Match performance for the side. He bowled a game-changing spell, picking three wickets for 19 runs. With the bat, he scored 29 runs from 14 balls to take the team over the line.

Previously, he mentioned his interest in playing for the national team. Taking the chance to speak after the player of the Match performance, he said that he wants to play for the West Indies, and it's not all about playing for the leagues. Talking to the media, Andre Russell said:

"I always want to play for the West Indies. Sometimes people might think it's all about playing leagues and all of those things, but I try to make sure that I look after my body and make sure that when the call-up is here, I'm ready. I was really excited for this call-up."

Regarding his retirement plans, Andre Russell believes he has much left in his tank. The player is set to decide his future after the T20 World Cup and how it goes. Before the World Cup, the player will also feature in the coveted Indian Premier League.

However, he cleared the air by mentioning that he had already discussed his potential unavailability after the World Cup with the coach. He said:

"I still have a lot left in the tank. But, you know, based on discussions with the coach, I told him that after the World Cup I would walk away from international cricket, but if they need me, I will come out of retirement."

West Indies will play England in the second T20I on 14th December. Currently, they lead the series 1-0.
