Indian captain Rohit Sharma shared his honest take on the idea of resumption of bilateral ties between India and Pakistan saying that he would love to play Pakistan outside the ICC events for the sake of the health of Test cricket.

India and Pakistan's cricketing ties have ceased to exist since 2007 due to soured diplomatic relations between the two neighbouring Asian countries.

However, over the years, several third-party nations sent invites to both teams to organise a bilateral Test series.

The same idea was proposed to Indian captain Rohit Sharma during his recent appearance on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.

Hosts Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan quizzed Rohit on whether he would be open to playing Pakistan outside ICC events in a bilateral Test series for the sake of promoting Test cricket.

Rohit Sharma promptly responded saying he would love to face Pakistan more frequently as the latter is a good side to compete with. Moreover, for the sake of fostering Test cricket, a series between two giant nations on overseas conditions could largely serve the purpose.

"They're a good team. They have got a superb bowling line-up. So it'll be a good contest especially if you play overseas conditions. That'll be awesome," said Rohit.

The Indian captain clarified later that his view on the proposed idea is solely based on how the series would benefit the game of cricket.

"At the end of the day, we want to be in contest and I think it will be a great contest between the two sides. We anyway play them in ICC trophies, so it doesn't really matter. It's just pure cricket that I'm looking at. I'm not interested in anything else. It's pure cricket, game between bat and ball. It'll be a great contest," he added.

While the idea of the resumption of cricketing ties between India and Pakistan is intriguing, the probability of its materialisation is extremely bleak as the political tensions between Asian rivals have only intensified in these past few years.
