The Indian team regained its height during the T20 World Cup 2024 final. Rohit Sharma and his men gave India a moment to celebrate as they won the title after 17 years, defeating South Africa in the summit clash.
When it comes to winning the T20 World Cup for India, we cannot ignore the pioneer, MS Dhoni. Under his leadership, India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007.
In a recent promotional event for the software brand, MS Dhoni was asked about the gripping action of the T20 World Cup final. The host of the event, Tanmay Bhatt, asked MSD if he, too, was watching the match and feeling nervous. The legend's answer reflected his calm and cool mentality, which signified him during his playing days.
MS Dhoni reflected on the nervous moments he had during the T20 WC 2024 Final
"We were at home; some friends had come over. The way the second innings was going, zyada tar dost bahar chale gaye the. They said to me, it is done, come join us outside. I said to them that in cricket, it is not over until it is over. None of them believed, even I was questioning but on the inside, I was asking abhi kya hona chaiye," - said Dhoni.
"One of the things I firmly believed was that their batters were slightly light on the batting front. There was a time when they were cruising but when the stakes were high and it was very crucial, you get a chance and you want to do the most of it," - added Dhoni.
"I think we did that and we won the trophy. Big congratulations to the guys on the field because that is the kind of energy, motivation, and belief that was needed. Irrespective of the result, till they don't win we need to keep pushing the game and that was the attitude,"- the legend further added.
A peek into the T20 World Cup 2024 Final
Notably, India batted first in the T20 World Cup final. Virat Kohli led the batting effort for the team and played a crucial 76 runs knock of 59 deliveries. Axar Patel aided him with a 47 off 31 as India posted a respectable 176/7 in their 20 overs.
South Africa did a great job in the chase and had the equation down to 27 runs off 28 deliveries with six wickets in hand. It was at this stage that most Indian fans thought that the match was gone and stopped following the game. However, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh staged a dramatic comeback for the team as India won the match by seven runs and thus their second T20 World Title.
