The first Test match between South Africa and Pakistan ended thrillingly as the Proteas sealed the game with a narrow 2-wicket margin. The win turned out to be an impactful one as the Temba Bavuma-led side secured their spot in the World Test Championship 2025 final and became the first team to enter the big stage.

Even after a great start, South Africa endured a few setbacks in the second innings. After that, they bounced back and sealed a thumping win over the Asian side. After sealing their place in the WTC final, skipper Temba Bavuma shared his thoughts on the nail-biting match.

Bavuma Gets Emotional During Presser

Even after playing for a long time, South Africa is still waiting to win a major ICC trophy. Their biggest heartbreak came earlier this year after losing the T20 World Cup final by a very small margin. But this time, the Proteas are all confident. After the prestigious qualification, South African captain Temba Bavuma shared emotional words. He said that he had not watched the match after lunch as he was nervous.

“Quite an emotional moment for me. Lot of joy and happiness on our side. We did the hard way. But glad we won. I was still sulking. Aiden get them going. Wasn't a lot of conversations. We still had the confidence. I didn't come out to the viewing area and was in the toilet. I came when 15 runs were needed.” Bavuma said.

South Africa Secure Place In WTC Final

After facing a humiliating whitewash in the ODI series, the South African side bounced back in red-ball cricket. Bowling first in the first innings, the South African bowlers Dane Paterson and Corbin Bosch outplayed Pakistan as the duo secured 9 wickets together. While batting in the first innings, Aiden Markram’s impactful innings of 89 runs and Corbin Bosch’s unbeaten knock of 81 runs boosted their innings.

While batting in the second innings, Pakistan tried to bounce back. Amidst Babar Azam’s half-century and Saud Shakeel’s 84 runs innings, South African bowlers took the charge. Marco Jansen secured a stunning 6-wicket haul. Kagiso Rabada secured 2 wickets while restricting the opponent to just 237 runs.

While batting in the second innings, South Africa faced massive setbacks as Pakistani speedster Mohammad Abbas dazzled with a stunning 6-wicket haul. Amidst the struggle, Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma added crucial runs. Pakistan almost gripped the match but lost control after the lunch. As a result of that South Africa is on their road to the Lord's for the WTC final with a narrow win.
