'I Haven’t Thought About It': Rahul Dravid On His Coaching Future After World Cup Final Loss

Dravid's post-World Cup reflection leaves coaching future in limbo
This match also marked the culmination of coach Rahul Dravid's two-year tenure with the team. Dravid, who assumed the coaching role for the Indian team in November 2021, led the squad through a series of significant tournaments, including the semifinals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, a World Test Championship final, and the 2023 World Cup final.
At the age of 50, Dravid has been vital in guiding the team to these heights, yet his future as coach remains uncertain. While speaking to the press in the aftermath of the World Cup 2023 final, Dravid expressed that he had not yet considered the possibility of extending his contract, stating that his entire focus was devoted to the World Cup campaign.
Dravid further highlighted that he had not had the opportunity to ponder over his future role or reflect on his tenure as coach, given the immediate demands of the tournament.
“I haven’t thought about it. Again, I’ve just come off a game. I have no time to think about this and no time to reflect on this. Yeah, I will when I get the time to do that. But at this point in time, I was completely focused on this campaign. It was focused on this World Cup, and there was nothing else on my mind. And I haven’t given any other thought to what happens in the future,” said Dravid.
Meanwhile, the recent defeat in the World Cup final extended India's wait for an ICC trophy, a quest filled with excitement and high hopes. Despite this setback, the team will look forward to future opportunities, with the next chance for a victory being the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA.
