Former West Indies pacer, Curtly Ambrose has given a ringing endorsement of Indian captain, Rohit Sharma's captaincy style.

Curtly Ambrose is impressed by Rohit Sharma's calm leadership

In a recent interaction with Revsportz, Ambrose commended Rohit for his ability to remain calm and composed, a quality he believes is indicative of top-tier leadership.

Having succeeded Virat Kohli as India's captain just last year, Rohit has quickly demonstrated his leadership mettle, guiding the team to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 and the World Test Championship final 2023. Though victories eluded them on both occasions, the team's character and determination under Rohit's helm have been notable.

Ambrose pointed out Rohit’s calm approach, especially during challenging times. He opined that a leader who can remain steady and avoid showing distress or excessive emotion can instill confidence in his team, a quality Rohit possesses in abundance.

The legendary bowler believes that as long as Rohit retains the confidence and backing of his team, India will be in good stead.

“I do like his style of captaincy. I like his calm demeanor. Even if the team isn’t doing well, he doesn’t show it. He is always very cool and calm, which is very good for a leader. Once he’s got the support of the rest of the team, they are going to be okay,” said Ambrose.

Furthermore, the West Indies great acknowledged the pressure of India playing on home turf for the World Cup 2023. However, he remained optimistic, stating that given the team's experience and skills, they are well-equipped to manage the expectations and deliver an impressive performance.

“There is added pressure of playing at home, but I believe these guys are experienced enough and are good enough to cope with the pressure. I believe they are going to do well,” added the 59-year-old.
