'I Am Focused On...': Rinku Singh Reveals His Intentions For KKR Captaincy In IPL 2025

After the IPL 2025 mega-auction, Kolkata Knight Riders aka KKR is one of the franchises that is yet to decide on their captain for the next edition of the tournament. While Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer stand as potential options, the KKR star 'finisher' Rinku Singh might be well up on the cards.

However, in a recent interaction, Rinku Singh, who is set to lead Uttar Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy has stated that he will not be burdening himself over the captaincy role of KKR and will focus on what's ahead.

Rinku Singh To Captain KKR in IPL 2025?

While there have been talks about his captaincy in KKR, it is worth mentioning that earlier this year, Rinku Singh captained the Meerut Mavericks to victory in the UPT20 League, contributing 210 runs at a strike rate of 161.54 in nine innings, primarily, as a finisher.

“It was a big opportunity for me to lead Meerut Mavericks in the UPT20 League, and I am happy that I could deliver. I really enjoyed captaincy as it allowed me to learn many things," Rinku was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

However, despite feeling happy and confident about leadership opportunities, the UP-born stated that KKR captaincy is not on his mind right now as he wants to focus on the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

"I am not thinking too much about the captaincy of KKR in the new IPL season. I am focused on my plans for Uttar Pradesh, as I want my team to regain the trophy we had won for the first time in 2015-16," added Rinku.

Well, everyone knows about Rinku Singh's heroics against RCB in 2023 and as a reward for his outstanding performances, KKR could make a surprising move and appoint Rinku Singh as their new captain next season. While this may come as a surprise for many, his ability to keep his calm under pressure makes him well-suited for the role.

Rinku's Stats Ahead Of Vijay Hazare Trophy

Nevertheless, with the Champions Trophy in February, the Vijay Hazare Trophy is crucial for players seeking national selection which includes Rinku. Notably, Singh, a T20I regular, has played only two ODIs since his South Africa debut.

Singh's List A record of 1,899 runs in 52 innings at 48.69 with a 94.8 strike rate, including one century and 17 fifties highlights his potential. As Uttar Pradesh's captain, he's focused on leading them to another Vijay Hazare Trophy title, mirroring their 2015-16 win, and will probably cement his candidature as KKR's next captain more prominently.
