England's wicketkeeper-batsman and skipper, Jos Buttler, recently expressed his admiration for the legendary former Indian captain, MS Dhoni, during an interaction with Star Sports.

Jos Buttler heaps praise on MS Dhoni

Highlighting Dhoni's calm demeanour and distinctive approach to the game, Buttler acknowledged the profound influence the Indian maestro has had on him.

While discussing his cricketing inspirations during the ingoing World Cup 2023, Buttler highlighted Dhoni's "ice-cool" presence, suggesting that many wicketkeeper-batsmen, including himself, view Dhoni as an idol.

“I am a huge MS Dhoni fan, so I really enjoy watching how he goes about his cricket. Mostly his demeanour and that sort of ice-cool state that he presents behind the stumps. So yeah, I think for most wicketkeeper batsmen, MS is a big idol for us,” said Buttler.

However, despite Buttler's personal sentiments, England, the defending champions, are facing challenging times in the World Cup 2023. The team, under Buttler's leadership, has struggled to find its form and rhythm. Out of the four matches they've played, England has tasted defeat in three, pushing them to the eighth spot in the points table.

The English contingent began their World Cup 2023 campaign on a low note, conceding a 9-wicket defeat to New Zealand. They managed to bounce back with a convincing 137-run victory over Bangladesh. But their subsequent performances have raised concerns, with staggering defeats against Afghanistan by 69 runs, and a concerning loss to South Africa by an astounding 229 runs.

As England faces Sri Lanka in Match 25 of the tournament, Buttler and his team will be under immense pressure. Another loss could essentially terminate their aspirations of defending the World Cup title.
