Bangladesh's vice-captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto has confirmed that captain Shakib Al Hasan will be ready to play in the Tigers' opening World Cup match against Afghanistan on October 7 in Dharamsala.

Shakib suffered a foot injury during a practice session prior to the warm-up games, causing him to miss both practice matches against Sri Lanka and England. Few reports had raised concerns that he might be unavailable for the opening match.

However, during the toss for the ongoing warm-up match against England, Shanto put all doubts to rest by stating:

"He is 100% fine, he'll be available for the first match. We played some good cricket in the last game, we still need to improve. I hope everyone plays well."

As of now, Bangladesh is facing Jos Buttler's team at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. In the first game, the team was led by all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz and secured an impressive seven-wicket victory against Sri Lanka at the same venue.

The importance of Shakib

The number one ranked ODI all-rounder, Shakib is poised to be a crucial asset for Bangladesh in this year's World Cup campaign, given his all-round contributions.

The 36-year-old has played a pivotal role in Bangladesh's progress in the ODI format since making his debut in 2006. He has participated in five ODI World Cups for Bangladesh, making him the most successful Bangladeshi player in World Cup history.

Shakib boasts an impressive record, accumulating 1146 runs with a couple of centuries and 10 half-centuries in 29 World Cup ODIs. In the bowling department, the veteran has taken 34 wickets at an economy rate of 5.11.

The Bangla Tigers, led by Shakib Al Hasan, will commence their World Cup campaign with a match against Afghanistan at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on October 7.
