Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah jolted England with twin strikes inside the powerplay during their high-octane World Cup 2023 clash in Lucknow. The legendary paceman eventually finished with figures of 3-32 as Team India romped to their sixth successive win in the tournament.

Remarkably, up until a few months ago, several questions were raised regarding his presence in team’s World Cup 2023 squad, considering he was still recovering from the back injury he sustained last year. The injury made him skip nearly a year’s worth of cricketing action, including the 2022 T20 World Cup, IPL 2023 and the 2023 WTC final, as he spent much of his time rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Upon his triumphant comeback for the Indian team, Bumrah addressed his mindset and how he tackled all injury concerns raised by fans and experts.

Jasprit Bumrah ‘happy to be back’

After bowling Team India to a huge 100-run win over defending champions England in Lucknow at the 2023 World Cup, Jasprit Bumrah said that all questions raised regarding his injury-struck absence during his time away from the game never concerned him.

While speaking on Sky Sports, the cricketer stated that he is simply happy to be back in the team and perform well for his country. He said:

“I heard a lot of question marks on my career that I will never come back and all of that, but it doesn't really matter. I'm very happy to be back and do well.”

Jasprit Bumrah made his official comeback into the Indian team for an away T20I series against Ireland a couple of months ago. The speedster further fine-tuned his fitness ahead of the 2023 World Cup with an Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and a home series against Australia.

So far in the ongoing cricketing carnival, Bumrah has snared 14 wickets from six innings to emerge as one of the leading wicket-takers of the competition.

The 29-year-old will now turn up for his side for their subsequent World Cup 2023 challenge against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
