'He Has Not Played Since 2015': Jos Buttler's 'Witty' Reply to Journalist's Anderson Query

The 2019 World Cup Champions enter the tournament as hot favourites along with the home side India. They have thoroughly enjoyed a stellar run in white-ball cricket in recent times and have by far looked as one of the most threatening sides leading up to the high-octane ODI World Cup.

England are slated to feature in the curtain-raiser against New Zealand on October 5 at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Ahed of this mega-blockbuster clash, the England captain encountered a very obnoxious question presented by one of the reports during the press conference.

Jos Buttler was asked whether England would feel the absence of the veteran fast-bowling duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad would impact England pace bowling arsenal ahead of the World Cup.

It is worth noting that, James Anderson and Stuart Broad have been absent from white-ball cricket for nearly 8 years. Anderson last featured in an ODI match back in 2015 when England took on Australia in a World Cup match in Wellington. On the other hand, Broad played his last ODI game way back in 2016. Subsequently, the duo shifted their focus to the longest format of the game and moved away from white-ball cricket.

Considering the length of time that they have been away, Buttler could have brutally mocked the reporter for his ill-researched question. Instead, he chose to remain fairly relaxed and responded to him in a very appropriate manner with a smile on his face.

“I think Jimmy is still available for selection. He has not played since 2015 and I don't think Stuart has either even though he has retired. Those two guys unfortunately won't be a part of this tournament. But yes we do have a really good side of fast bowlers, spinners - a nicely balanced team.”

With the red-hot pace of Mark Wood, coupled with a formidable left-arm pace attack from Reece Topley and David Willey, this English pace attack can cause some serious headaches for the top-ranked teams who will be jostling to get their hands on the World Cup trophy.
