After the T20I series defeat against Bangladesh, Afghanistan shut all the critics after winning the ODI series with a clean 3-0 margin. The Tigers were left searching for answers throughout the series, as Afghanistan’s relentless attack proved too heavy to handle in every match.

The last match caused the biggest heartbreak for Bangladesh as they faced a massive 200-run defeat. After the forgettable match, skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz openly acknowledged the team’s shortcomings while vowing to script a strong comeback.

Bangladesh pay the price for missed opportunities

After a mighty T20I series win against Afghanistan, Bangladesh entered the ODI series with confidence, but that turned out to be a nightmare for them. After Afghanistan secured two early wins, both sides locked horns in the third ODI in Abu Dhabi. As Bangladesh aimed for a stronger bounce back, the Afghan bowling attack kept them away from their goal.

Despite the bowlers’ efforts to keep Afghanistan in check, a disastrous batting collapse derailed Bangladesh’s hopes and led to a humiliating defeat. After the horrific defeat, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz accepted their struggle in the recently ended series.

“We accept that we haven't played well in this series. We are not getting the runs, we had opportunities but we didn't take it. Everybody accepted that we are not playing well. They have a good bowling attack but we have to handle it,” he said.

Tigers eye improvements to bounce back stronger

Bangladesh’s batting collapse in the last match will haunt them for a long time. While chasing a total of 294 runs, they ended their innings on 93 runs. Adding to their misery, Bangladesh tumbled, losing seven wickets for just 23 runs. Reflecting on the collapse, skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz admitted that the team needs significant improvements in key areas to turn the tables.

“We are worried about particular areas, like giving away too many wickets. We have to take responsibility in the top and middle order, and then towards the end. We will talk about how we can get better. We have to play 50 overs, last three matches, we have not been able to do that. Played ODI series after a long time,” he added.

With pure dominance, Afghanistan secured the ODI series by a 3-0 margin. In the last match, Bilal Sami’s outstanding fifer shattered Bangladesh’s batting order as Afghanistan registered a massive 200-run victory.
