Former India cricketer turned commentator Dinesh Karthik has criticised India's ODI and red-ball skipper Rohit Sharma's dismissal in the second Test between India and New Zealand. Karthik believes that the ball had nothing great about it and that Rohit played that ball badly, which resulted in his dismissal.
Rohit, dismissed for a nine-ball duck, became the victim of a killer delivery by Tim Southee. The Kiwi bowler unleashed a jaffa, and the captain misjudged the line, exposing his defence as the ball hit the top of the off-stump. The ball was angling towards Rohit, but it changed shape at the last moment and moved away from him, leaving Rohit confused.
Dinesh On Southee-Rohit Stats
The ex-RCB batter said that, looking at the stats, Rohit has been dismissed by Southee 14 times, and hence, he feels he has an edge over him.
“The ball was swinging a bit and Southee has had his number quite a few times. If you want me to get into stats, 14 times he has dismissed him in international cricket. He probably has an edge over Rohit, a little bit. Hence, he is aware that he is the bowler that Rohit does not fancy as much, so the batter was just taking his time. He came out defensive,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.
Furthermore, Dinesh Karthik also said that Southee's delivery to dismiss Rohit had nothing great about it and that the Indian stalwart got out on a delivery he should not have.
"That was a stock, standard ball for Southee. There was nothing great about it. Yes, it swung a little bit from the stumps, but that is what good international bowlers do. Rohit got out to a ball which he should not have. It might look good on screen. He played the ball rather badly. The way he defended was not the best way to defend that ball," Karthik said.
Meanwhile, talking about the game, Day 2 started off in New Zealand's with India failing to once again taking a lead as they were bundled out early after a batting collapse. On the other hand, NZ batters look stronger than ever having taken a lead by 251 runs. India is in dire need to take some wickets in order to come back in this game.
