Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal announced his international retirement on Thursday, amidst the ongoing three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, shocking the cricketing world, including his teammates.

However, on Friday after meeting Bangladesh Prime Minister, the batter took his decision back.

Current Test and T20 International (T20I) skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who, along with Tamim, have been the backbone of Bangladesh cricket since 2006-07, in a Facebook post, expressed his best wishes and thanked the former skipper for his contributions, prior to the reversal.

According to thedailystar, several reports suggested that a rift between Shakib and Tamim in recent times has been creating problems within the team. The duo have been playing cricket for Bangladesh since Under-15 days back in 2003 and have become legends in their own right within the country.

Here's what Hasan wrote

"We, among many others, sacrificed a lot to take Bangladesh cricket to the next level and your passion and aggression has helped inspire many more. We believed and relied on each other's strengths to achieve a common goal - to win for our country. Your runs and records speak for themselves and we, as teammates, are immensely proud of everything you have accomplished as a player,

It's going to be strange to not be in the middle with you anymore...but your fire will be inside us all when we step into every battle. May you continue to cross boundaries and hit sixes in life and enjoy new moments with your loved ones,"

In 70 Tests, 241 ODIs, and 78 T20Is for Bangladesh, Tamim amassed 5,134, 8,313, and 1,758 runs, respectively, including 25 centuries and 94 fifties.

Meanwhile, Litton Das being handed over the captaincy for the remainder of the Afghanistan series. The second ODI will be played tomorrow, with Afghanistan leading the series 1-0.
