The legendary Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma duo stunned the entire cricket community with their retirement announcement after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados on Saturday.

In their nine World Cup journeys, the two have collectively amassed 8,419 runs, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.

While Kohli led India in T20Is from 2017 to 2021, after that, the baton passed on to Rohit Sharma, who, in his four-year career, not only took India to new heights but also set a new benchmark for Indian cricket.

However, the two's absence from the T20I format has forced a significant question: Who would take over the T20I captaincy?

On similar lines after India's historic win over South Africa, a reporter asked Hardik Pandya about the role ahead and how he looks at it especially now that the two legends have retired from T20Is and he is expected to lead the team now.

Hardik Pandya On T20I Captaincy

"There is a lot of time for 2026. I am very happy for both Rohit and Virat...two giants and legends of Indian cricket, who thoroughly deserved this. It has been so amazing playing with them for so many years. We all will miss them but at the same point, this is the best farewell we can give them."

Hardik Pandya was an essential member of the Indian team throughout the World Cup. He held his nerves and executed his plan to win the trophy in the final over, especially after Rabada's boundary in the final over brought the equation down to 12 off 4.
