One of the leading sports presenters, Pakistan-born Zainab Abbas left her ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 assignment in India midway last week, giving rise to a lot of speculation.

Now, after days of silence, Abbas, who is currently in Dubai, posted on her social media platform 'X' and explained her decision to leave India. In her statement, Abbas confirmed that she wasn't asked to leave or was deported, but left on her own accord after feeling 'sacred' and 'intimidated'.

The presenter faced online hate and threats with her old tweets about religion resurfacing after Advocate Vineet Jindal filed an FIR against her for a derogatory comment made in 2014 on Hindu faith and beliefs.

Abbas further apologised for her statements, which left the sentiments of people hurt, and offended them in one way or another.

This comes after Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch lashed out at India, labelling the FIR as "unnecessary".

As quoted by InsideSport, Baloch further added that the responsibility lies on the Indian government to provide safety and security for Pakistan nationals in India.

"The case against Zainab Abbas on unnecessary tweets is not the right action. Zainab is being dragged into an unjustified case,”

Earlier, ICC in their remark stated that Abbas left due to " personal reasons" and has maintained silence on the issue.

Apart from Zainab, Waqar Younis and Ramiz Raja were the few Pakistan nationals, who were granted VISA to travel to India for the competition.
