Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana lavished praise upon his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, MS Dhoni, emphasizing the tremendous learning experience he provides for the team.

An emerging mystery spinner from Sri Lanka, Theekshana marked his debut in the IPL during the 2022 season, becoming a member of the Chennai Super Kings after being acquired for INR 70 lakhs at the 2022 Mega Auction. Despite both KKR and CSK showing interest in the 21-year-old prodigy, it was CSK that secured his services for the season.

Theekshana promptly showcased his mettle as a dependable bowler, amassing an impressive 12 wickets during the season with an economy rate of 7.46, which included a standout four-wicket performance. Although CSK's journey fell short of the playoffs, Theekshana's contributions held promise, leading to his retention for the subsequent IPL 2023.

Despite a delayed start with the team due to national commitments, he managed to make his presence felt by participating in 13 matches and securing 11 wickets in this year's IPL, boasting a striking strike rate of 26.73.

During an interview with RevSportz, Theekshana emphasized Dhoni's exceptional qualities as a captain and leader. He described Dhoni as a fantastic presence who exudes composure and handles pressure adeptly. Theekshana highlighted that the influence of Dhoni's leadership is not limited to him alone but extends to the entire team, with everyone learning valuable lessons from his approach.

"MS Dhoni is a fantastic captain & leader - everyone has benefited from his composure. The way he handles the pressure, it's not just me, everyone learns from him,"  Maheesh Theekshana said in an interview with RevSportz.

As one of Dhoni's highly reliable deputies, Theekshana appears to be in line for retention by the five-time IPL champions as they prepare for the IPL 2024 season.
