Rishabh Pant during IPL 2025 [Source: @CricComradeRaja/x]
Rishabh Pant’s dismal form with the bat for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) this IPL 2025 season seems to have gone from bad to worse, as evidenced from his recent outings. In nine innings of the tournament so far, the blistering wicketkeeper-batter has accrued just 110 runs at an average of 12.22, and a substandard strike rate of less than 100.
Moreover, the 27-year-old scored 63 of those runs in a single innings, doing so against the CSK in Lucknow last month. Pant’s recent struggles with the bat even prompted him to make a bizarre change in his batting order, by demoting himself down to number seven during LSG’s match against Delhi Capitals.
Kris Srikkanth questions LSG management
Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has questioned the LSG team management for allowing Rishabh Pant to bat at number seven against the Delhi Capitals in Lucknow. Pant ended up arriving to the crease in the final over before he got cleaned up for a two-ball duck by Mukesh Kumar.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth said:
“Why did he come to bat for just two balls? What’s the team management trying to do? Everybody’s sitting there. Langer is also there. Doesn’t he have brains?”
Rishabh Pant, however, return to his usual batting position of number four in LSG’s next match against Mumbai Indians. Scoring just four runs from two balls, the LSG slipped to a huge 54-run defeat at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Batting form aside, Rishabh Pant also seems to be having a topsy-turvy season as a captain of the LSG franchise. Under his leadership, they have secured five wins and sustained five defeats from 10 matches to be ranked sixth on the IPL 2025 points table.
The LSG will now face Punjab Kings on Sunday, May 4 in Dharamsala.
