'CSK Have Two Combinations Ready…,' Irfan Pathan Hails CSK Ahead Of IPL 2024

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is a formidable unit and will enter the forthcoming IPL 2024 season with two combinations at their disposal.

Led by charismatic MS Dhoni, the ‘Yellow Brigade’ won the IPL 2023 final to bag their fifth title, thus becoming the tournament’s most successful franchise alongside Mumbai Indians.

In November 2023, the CSK management retained MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja along with several other star performers, and even made new additions to their core the following month at the IPL 2024 auction.


Irfan Pathan praises CSK’s IPL 2024 reserves

Irfan Pathan believes the CSK franchise have “sorted” their playing XI, and have even recruited potential replacement players that are good enough to take field for the team. 

“In terms of the combination they have, their playing XI is sorted. Apart from the playing XI, they have five or six guys who can actually come and play as well. So their squad is full and their replacements are full," Pathan said on Star Sports.

Irfan Pathan even claimed that CSK has not one but two combinations ready for this IPL 2024 season. The former cricketer cited the example of Sri Lankan speedster Matheesha Pathirana and Bangladesh pace veteran Mustafizur Rahman and how the two cricketers can replace each other at any point in the playing XI.

“If Matheesha Pathirana doesn't start well, they have Mustafizur Rahman. They might even start with Mustafizur. They might have all Indian bowlers and most of the overseas batters as well. So they have not one but two combinations ready well before the IPL season has started," he added.

On December 19, i.e., during the IPL 2024 auction event in UAE, the CSK franchise roped in Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Mustafizur Rahman and Shardul Thakur among several others to their line-up.
