Wasim Akram complimented Jasprit Bumrah with a grin as the Indian spearhead warmed the heart of Pakistan's fast-bowling legend with a terrific burst against England at the ICC World Cup 2023 on Sunday (October 29) in Lucknow.

The pace great hailed the ace India speedster for his exceptional opening spell versus the much-vaunted Englishmen and ultimately finishing with spectacular match figures of 3/32 inside seven overs in his team's remarkable win by 100 runs.

Bumrah dismissed England's in-form opening batter Dawid Malan and veteran No.3 Joe Root with his new-ball spell before running past tailender Mark Wood's defence to end the proceedings at the Ekana Stadium.

The 29-year-old combined for a devastating display with fellow pace stalwart Mohammad Shami (4/22) to bundle out England for a catastrophic 129.

Wasim Hails Bumrah's 'Unplayable' Burst

Bringing his innate Punjabi swag to the fore, Wasim joked:

"Bumrah ne gumrah kar diya (he completely dismantled England) with his scintillating performance with the ball in Lucknow."

The pace giant felt Bumrah was "unplayable" in parts of his spell and "created pressure" which helped Shami run through the English middle-order in what was arguably the Bengal seamer's best performance in One-Day Internationals.

"Bumrah ne gumrah kar diya..kya ball seam ho raha hein..beautiful. Around the wicket, unplayable to the left handers. The length...That's how you create pressure," Akram said on Pakistan-based 'A Sports'

"From the first over itself, he’s [Bumrah] bowling inswings and a couple of outswings. His length and seam positions are impeccable. Yorkers at will...He is the best in the world right now. Top of the ladder, the way he is performing, the control, pace, the variations, he is just a complete bowler. Treat to watch," he added.

Bumrah entered the beast mode and constantly attacked in India's eventually successful defence of the insignificant 229/9 on a tricky pitch. The great bowler hasn't always gotten the just rewards for his excellence as a speedster but is now standing on 14 wickets for the tournament in just six matches at an average of 15.07.

Bumrah's presence has made a world of difference for the rest of the Indian attack as they could ease into their roles and help India continue their incredible 6-0 winning streak.
