Ashes 2023 | 'If All Pitches are Like That I’m Done': James Anderson Lambasts Edgbaston Pitch

One of the leading Test bowlers in modern-day cricket, England's James Anderson is showing no signs of slowing down. The swing bowler in 180 matches, has claimed 686 wickets and is on the brink of history, to become the third bowler in Tests to reach 700-mark.

However, Anderson, 40, had a poor outing in the first Ashes 2023 Test against Australia, where the 180-Test-old player managed just one wicket. Writing in his column for Daily Telegraph, the pacer expressed his displeasure at Edgbaston pitch, which offered nothing for the bowlers.

Anderson went on to address that if pitches in the remaining four Ashes Tests continue to be a flat deck, his career might be over by the time the series ends.

Here's what Anderson wrote

“If all the pitches are like that I’m done in the Ashes series. That pitch was like kryptonite for me. There was not much swing, no reverse swing, no seam movement, no bounce and no pace. I’ve tried over the years to hone my skills so I can bowl in any conditions but everything I tried made no difference. I felt like I was fighting an uphill battle.”

Anderson claimed the wicket of keeper Alex Carey in Australia's first innings and played no part on Day 5 despite England having the new-ball, where Australia chased down 281 runs to win the Test and take a 1-0 lead.

Anderson is coming off an injury layoff, and did not feature in England's one-off Test against Ireland as well before the Ashes began.

The second Test starts on June 28 at Lord's.
