The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dismissed former pacer Wahab Riaz and retired all-rounder Abdul Razzaq who were in the selection committee, following Pakistan's disappointing performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which saw India win the trophy.

Under the leadership of Babar Azam, Pakistan suffered defeats against USA and India in the T20 World Cup, leading to their elimination in the group stage of the World Cup. Despite victories over Ireland and Canada, Pakistan's overall performance fell short of qualifying expectations.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed a commitment to revamping Pakistan's cricket setup, starting with changes to the selection committee members.

Later, Wahab Riaz penned a detailed post reflecting on recent events and developments.

“My time serving as a member of the selection committee for PCB comes to an end, I just want my people to know that I have served the game I love with faith and sincerity and have given 100 percent for the betterment of Pakistan cricket,” Wahab Riaz said on Twitter.

Wahab Riaz expressed that while he had a lot to say about recent events, he chose not to engage in a blame game.

Both Riaz and Razzaq served on the seven-member selection committee responsible for choosing the squad for the tournaments like ICC tournaments. An internal PCB investigation reportedly identified inconsistencies in several of the committee's decisions.

The decision to sack both Wahab and Razzaq is also believed to be influenced by feedback from the manager, coach, and potentially the captain, Babar Azam.
