The rivalry that is always known to produce some action on & off the field yet again delivered as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were involved in some heated moments during the World Cup 2023 game between the two sides that happened in Delhi.

There were two or three occurrences of the players going after each other for different reasons, however, the most notable of them was the one where Lankan senior player Angelo Mathews was involved in as he was declared timed-out while trying to fix his helmet after reaching the crease when opposition skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the umpires.

This generated a plethora of emotions from both the camps, alongside fans and pundits who have given their opinions on the matter. However, Mathews, who was left fuming after he had to walk back, expressed his disappointment on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he straightway targeted the fourth umpire, calling it a wrong decision.

Replying to a post from ICC, Mathews mentioned that the call made was false in this case, considering there were five more seconds left on the clock after his helmet malfunctioned. Further, asking the fourth umpire to rectify his decision while referring to the fact that he could not face the ball without a helmet due to safety concerns.

"4th umpire is wrong here! Video evidence shows I still had 5 more seconds even after the helmet gave away! Can the 4th umpire rectify this please? I mean safety is paramount as I just couldn’t face the bowler without a helmet,"

Moreover, in another reply, the all-rounder had a piece of proof to support his argument where the time between the last batter's dismissal and his arrival at the crease was visible.

"Proof! From the time catch was taken and the time helmet strap coming off."

Nevertheless, all this is a matter of debate now among the fans as ICC had already given its verdict, which made Mathews the first batter in the history of international cricket to be dismissed this way.

Moving on to the game, Bangladesh were able to achieve a magnificent victory over Sri Lanka by three wickets as Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib played decent knocks for their side.
