The upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, the world's largest cricket stadium, is garnering significant attention, particularly regarding the pitch. The Indian team, including captain Rohit Sharma, has been closely inspecting the surface, intensifying the anticipation for the Sunday showdown.

State association curator offered insight into pitch for World Cup 2023 final

According to reports from ESPNCricinfo, the pitch's condition is a topic of intrigue. The curator was observed rolling the pitch slightly off-centre, raising questions about the final pitch selection. Despite this, there is no official confirmation on which pitch will be used for the climactic match.

An unnamed state association curator provided insights into the pitch's characteristics, especially if prepared with a heavy roller on a black soil strip.

The curator suggested that such a preparation would result in a slow batting track favourable for scoring high but challenging for consistent hitting. He estimated that a score of around 315 could be a defendable target, given the difficulties likely to be faced by the team batting second.

“If heavy roller is used on a black soil strip then the track will be slow in nature where a big score can be put up on the board but hitting through the line will be difficult. 315 could be a defendable score as batting second will not be easy,” said the curator.

In preparation for the final, the BCCI's chief of ground staff Ashish Bhowmick, his deputy Taposh Chatterjee, and BCCI's GM (Domestic Cricket) Abbey Kuruvilla were present at the stadium on November 17 to oversee the pitch preparations.

The pitch's nature, whether a previously used one or a fresh track, remains unconfirmed. Meanwhile, the Indian team participated in an optional training session. Key players such as Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishan Kishan, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Prasidh Krishna were seen practising, gearing up for this clash of monumental proportions.
