World Cup 2023 | What If India Lose To Pakistan In Ahmedabad?

On Saturday, India will have an uphill task as they will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their third group-stage game in the World Cup 2023. Led by Rohit Sharma, India have enjoyed stellar success in the tournament, recording emphatic victories in their first couple of games. After securing a six-wicket win over Australia in Chennai, the Men in Blue steamrolled Afghanistan by eight wickets in Delhi.

So, Rohit Sharma's troops are high on confidence before the much-anticipated encounter against Pakistan. But what if they succumb to pressure and end up losing the match?

Rohit Sharma will attain an infamous captaincy feat

If India lose this match, Rohit Sharma will be the first Indian captain to lose an ODI World Cup game against Pakistan. India have never lost to Pakistan in a World Cup game in seven face-offs.

Their dominance, which started in 1992, has been sustained so far, with them holding a stunning seven-nil record over their arch-rivals. So, if they lose this time, Rohit Sharma will achieve an infamous feat, becoming the first Indian skipper to concede a game to Pakistan on the biggest stage.

Babar Azam's captaincy legacy will be unparalleled

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma's counterpart, Babar Azam, will establish his legacy, becoming the first Pakistani skipper to register two World Cup victories against India.

In 2021, Pakistan recorded their first-ever World Cup win against India, crushing them by ten wickets in the T20 World Cup. So, if Pakistan emerges victorious, Babar will get Godly status in his country. Also, he will be able to silence his critics, who have scrutinised his leadership in the past.

The impact on teams' momentum

Considering how they have performed so far, India will enter as outright favourites to win this contest. However, if they lose, it will adversely affect their momentum as the ruthless Indian media will criticise them. On the contrary, if Pakistan win this game, their confidence will be sky-rocketed, transforming them from underdogs to title contenders in the showpiece event.
