Virat Kohli is widely admired for his exceptional skills and unwavering commitment to the game. The celebrated Indian cricketer has injected a spectacular benchmark for fitness into the sport, one which he himself follows to the dot every time he hits the gym.

His untiring efforts has earned him a huge pile of batting records, comparison with the all-time greats, and a legion of fans and worshippers all over the globe.

Apparently, he was confident of boasting of a distinguished career at a young age itself, as a 17-year-old Kohli once walked up to Australian legends Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry to predict his celebrated future.

Alyssa Healy narrates confrontation with young Kohli

Australian women’s cricketer Alyssa Healy once narrated her interaction with a young Virat Kohli during her team’s 2005 tour of India. Sitting besides her husband, Australian men’s speedster Mitchell Starc, Healy revealed that Kohli had approached her and Ellyse Perry to make a bold claim about himself.

According to the Australian wicketkeeper, the former Indian skipper introduced himself as the “next big thing of Indian cricket”. She said:

“Ellyse Perry and I were sitting there and this guy wandered over to us, this young Indian guy (Virat Kohli). He did not introduce himself. He said ‘hello, how are you?’ and then he said ‘I am the next big thing in Indian cricket’.”

Virat Kohli, one of the stalwarts of Team India’s batting since making his debut, has scored nearly 26,000 runs in international cricket. Up until a year ago, he held averages of above 50 in each of the three top-level formats, being the only one to do so.

Kohli has amassed 76 international hundreds, and is only second in the all-time list of century-makers behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 tons.
