The Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma celebrated his 36th birthday in grand style as his side registered a record victory over Rajasthan Royals, beating them in an epic final over thriller by 6 wickets.  On the eve of the 1000th IPL match, the Wankhede stadium was lit up by the fireworks of Yashashwi Jaiswal and Tim David who scored swashbuckling knocks of 124 (62) and 45 (14) respectively to bring the crowd on their feet.

Furthermore, this was also Sharma's 150th match as a MI skipper. He took over the leadership role for his franchise in 2013 and has since then lead them to five IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020). With a thumping win on Sunday night, Sharma is now the second most successful IPL captain with 82 wins under his belt trailing behind the legendary MS Dhoni (128).

During the post match presentation, the 36-year-old was invited by Harsha Bhogle to share his views on his team' s scintillating performance. The latter started off by congratulating him on his landmark victory as a MI skipper him and asked him what this victory means to him on his 36th birthday.  In response, Rohit gave a hilarious response by saying that he is still a year younger which left Harsha Bhogle in splits.

Here's how the conversation went:

Harsha Bhogle - Win on your 36th birthday.

Rohit Sharma - It's the 35th, not the 36th.

Harsha - Oh, they gave me one more.

Rohit - No, it's 36th only. I was joking

After having a bit of a chuckle, Rohit reflected on his team's performance and revealed that he was very pleased with how his side went about chasing a gigantic total against a formidable RR bowling line up.

He further added that Tim David's exiliriating effort with the bat was vital in powering his side to an astounding victory. The MI skipper certainly reckons that he is someone who can fill Polly's shoes and can demolish any bowling attack with his power-hitting abilities at the backend of the innings.

Although Rohit did not have the best of the days with the bat, he surely would have enjoyed his side clinch an emphatic victory on his 36th birthday. Mumbai Indians have now secured 4 wins out of 8 games and are currently positioned at the 7th spot in the point's table. They will now head to Mohali to face Punjab Kings in their next encounter on May 3.
