T20 World Cup 2022: Virat Kohli 28 runs away from yet another WC record

Virat Kohli has been in stellar form in the ongoing T20 World Cup. The legendary batter has scored back-to-back fifties against Pakistan and Netherlands and all eyes will be on him when India collide against South Africa in their game of the tournament.

Kohli, who has scored 989 runs across all T20 World Cups need 28 more runs to become the leading run scorer in the history of the tournament.

Former Sri Lanka skipper and World Cup winner, Mahela Jayawardene currently holds the record with 1016 runs to his name.

Moreover, he needs 11 more runs to cross the 1000-run mark at the World Cup, with the only other player being Jayawardene in the list.

Speaking of Kohli, he has played 23 matches at the World Cup and has an astonishing average of 89.9, which includes 12 half-centuries to his name.

He'll be looking to pile on more runs when India take on South Africa at the Optus Stadium on Sunday.
