Mithun Manhas: BCCI president candidate who guided Virat Kohli during his toughest hour

As Mithun Manhas edges closer to create history as India’s first uncapped cricketer to head the BCCI, fans have started revisiting moments that define his understated and impactful legacy. One such moment was spotted when Manhas shared a nostalgic picture of a Virat Kohli on his Instagram and also helped him during his difficult phase.

The Day Kohli Lost His Father - And Still Took the Field

It was during a Ranji Trophy match when Virat Kohli lost his father, Prem Kohli, in the early hours of the morning. The modern-legend was only a teenager then, but he yet chose to play the match the same day.

At the time, Mithun Manhas was Delhi’s captain and was leading the side. When news of Kohli’s loss reached the team, it was Manhas who urged the youngster to go home and be with his family. But Kohli insisted on staying. And Manhas, respecting the determination and choice relented and backed his decision.

Mithun Manhas's Career

Mithun Manhas might never have worn the India cap, but his domestic record stands tall. He has played 157 First-class matches and made 9,714 runs with 27 centuries.

The former All-rounder also played 130 List A matches and made 4,126 runs at an average of 45.84. He has also played in the IPL for three teams -  Delhi, Pune, and CSK. Overall, taking a look at his IPL stats, he has made 514 runs in 55 matches at a strike rate of 109.36.

It is also important to mention that despite not achieving a prominent name during his playing days. In 2017, he returned as the assistant coach of Punjab, and later became part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as their assistant coach. Another interesting fact about Manhas is that he has also served as the DOC operations manager with the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association.
