Prithvi Shaw is one of the most talented players in Indian cricket, however, the youngster has failed to live up to expectations after a blistering start to his career for India. Shaw's batting, described as part Virender Sehwag, Brian Lara, and Sachin Tendulkar after his maiden Test ton in 2018 by Ravi Shastri, has spiraled down the batting ranks, as others like Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad rose to prominence.

After back-to-back failures in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season for the Delhi Capitals, Sehwag has lashed out at the youngster, drawing comparisons with his Under-19 batchmate Gill, who has been scoring runs by the buckets lately.

Shaw managed just seven runs against Gill's Gujarat Titans last evening in his side's six-wicket loss.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, the former Indian opener said that Shaw is not learning from his mistakes and continues to fall in a similar fashion match after match.

Here's what Viru said

"He (Prithvi Shaw) has been dismissed playing those kind of shots so many times...but he should also learn from his mistakes, right? Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and is now playing Test, ODIs and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in IPL.

"He (Shaw) has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600 odd runs in an IPL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. So even Shaw has to be consistent with his IPL scores," Sehwag concluded.

Overall, in IPL 2023, Shaw has managed 19 runs, while Gill has scored 77 and Gaikwad has slammed 149 runs in two innings, respectively.

Shaw's next match will up against an in-form Rajasthan Royals' bowling attack on Saturday in Guwahati.
