Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered a rare loss while chasing the previous evening against Delhi Capitals (DC) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 encounter in Ahmedabad. The Hardik Pandya-led side failed to achieve 131 runs, where the skipper himself remained unbeaten on 59*.

Delhi's 5-run victory saw them notch their third win of the season while handing Gujarat their third loss, who still remain table-toppers. Opener Shubman Gill, who had a rare failure, came out and defended Pandya for his knock.

Interestingly, Pandya failed to hit a boundary in the last thirteen balls he faced, and GT lost by just five runs.

As quoted by Indian Express, Gill, speaking at the post-match conference, admitted that the track was tough but not unplayable, also adding that chasing 200 totals is easier than small ones.

Here's what Gill said

“As a player and as a batsman, we are all bound to have one off days. It was just one of those off days. But he did back himself to get those runs but credit to Delhi, they bowled some really good yorkers at the back end. I don’t think the wicket was that bad. We have bowled really well upfront. We failed to have partnerships in the top order which created pressure on the lower order.

If you lose a couple of early wickets. It leaves you in limbo whether to hit them out of the game or bat through. It is difficult for teams to chase low-scoring totals,”

Gill went on to further laud DC's Ripal Patel and Aman Khan for their knocks, which propelled their side to 130.

Khan registered his maiden IPL fifty, while Patel scored a quick-fire 23 off 13 after Delhi were down and out on 73 for 6.

Post the match, the Indian all-rounder himself admitted that he failed to get GT past the winning line, where Ishant Sharma defended 12 runs in the final over.
