New Zealand Cricket (NZC) CEO David White has confirmed that senior left-arm pacer Trent Boult will likely feature in the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India.

Boult opted out of a central contract last year in a bid to spend more time with his family.

But, the champion seamer recently expressed his desire to represent the BlackCaps in the marquee event.

In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Boult said:

"I’ve made my decision. I’ve been lucky enough to have a 13-year career in the Black Cap and hey, I’ve still got a big desire to play in the World Cup as well. We’ll see how that unfolds,"

As per reports in New Zealand media, White said that he will be extremely surprised if Boult doesn't make it to the World Cup party in India later this year.

However, he also added that the first priority will be given to the centrally contracted players.

Here's what NZC CEO said:

"It’s very important for the integrity of our contracting model that we give priority to our centrally contracted players. In saying that, we’ve had a lot of conversations with Trent over the last few weeks and months. I’d be very surprised if he wasn’t representing New Zealand in the World Cup and we’re having very positive conversations with him."

Boult has represented New Zealand in two 50-over World Cups, and given his vast experience of playing in India, it shouldn't come as a shock if he is included in the WC squad despite not being centrally contacted.
