Gujarat Giants take on Delhi Capitals in Match 10 of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 on Sunday (March 3) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The Giants aim for their first win of the tournament against the last year's runners-up, who currently sit pretty on top of the table. 

The Capitals led by the legendary Australian player Meg Lanning have won two of their first three games of the WPL 2024, in stark contrast to the Giants under Beth Mooney's leadership as they are languishing at the bottom in the league standings.

Gujarat Giants 

The Giants suffered their third consecutive defeat of the tournament after going down comprehensively against the UP Warriorz on Friday (March 1). Batting first, they could only muster a score of 142/5 despite good conditions to bat on and then conceded defeat inside 16 overs in the second half.

Multiple Giants batters, including opener Laura Wolvaardt (28), Phoebe Litchfield (35) and Ashleigh Gardner (30), got starts but none kicked-on to produce a substantial score that would've elevated the team's total to a more competitive 170-180. 

With lack of scoreboard pressure, Giants bowlers were always fighting a lost battle. Only left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar with figures of 2 for 23 emerged as a positive on the night for the Gujarat franchise, which needs to quickly pull the socks. 

Delhi Capitals 

The Capitals dominated the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their last league stage encounter, suppressing the threat posed by the hosts with an exceptional allround display on the night. Lanning's arsenal clinched a comfortable win after posting a huge score of 194/5.

The top-order duo of Shafali Varma (50) and Alice Capsey (46) laid the perfect foundation for the visitors before the late blitz from Marizanne Kapp (32) and Jess Jonassen (36*) helped them reach near the 200 mark. 

Despite a scare from the resurgent Smriti Mandhana (73) during the run-chase, the Capitals came out triumphant by 25 runs after Jonassen lit up the night, backing her end-overs assault with figures of 3 for 21 off her 4 overs.

Since the boundaries have been further brought in at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, the ground has witnessed only a more frequent doze of fours and sixes, with even mishits from some of the batters flying over the ropes.
