India is currently facing New Zealand in the first Test of the three-match Test series at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After a dismal batting show in the first innings, India is trying to stage a comeback in the game in the second innings.

Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan's counter-aggressive partnership of 136 runs has opened a narrow but hopeful door for India in the game. The home team is currently stationed at 231/3 at the end of Day 3.

Virat Kohli's wicket put India in a tentative position

Virat Kohli's last-ball wicket has put India in a precarious position. At this juncture, Rishabh Pant becomes a vital cog for the game's team. The wicket-keeper batter walked off the field during Day 2 of the Test match with a knee injury and was not seen on the ground during Day 3.

However, the Indian fans might take heart from the fact that Pant was seen practising with his bat during Day 3. He might come out to bat on Day 4. Also, his injury is external, so there will be no time constraints regarding his coming out to bat.

Per the MCC rules, "A nominated player's absence will not incur Penalty time if, 24.3.1 he/she has suffered an external blow during the match and, as a result, has justifiably left the field or is unable to take the field."

Why is Rishabh Pant crucial for India?

India has come out with an aggressive approach in the second innings. They are currently trailing by 125 runs. India's approach will be to get past the New Zealand score as soon as possible and then take a sizeable lead. They will try putting a formidable target on the board and challenge the visitors with their spinners. With India looking to score runs at a flair clip, Rishabh Pant's batting style and approach will be crucial for the team.
