WI vs IND: West Indies Stun Clueless India to Level ODI Series

India's experimentation back-fired on them badly as the Men in Blue lost the second ODI against West Indies by 6-wickets.

Despite winning the first ODI by 5-wickets, Team India had plenty of questions to answer. They once again experimented with their batting approach and that costed them big time against the Windies.

India Crumble without Kohli, Rohit

India spring a surprise at toss when they decided to rest Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the second ODI. The decision backfired heavily as the Indian batting failed to deliver the goods and crumbled against a spirited West Indian attack.

Despite a solid start from Ishan Kishan (55), and Shubman Gill (34), India couldn't capitalise on the momentum and lost a flurry of wickets. It was Kishan once again, who stood tall and notched up his second successive fifty in the ODI series.

However, the fall of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan started the great Indian collapse as the wickets fell like a pack of cards. From 90 for 1 to 113 for 5, India went from a great start, to the same old story of losing wickets in tandems.

Rain god saved India for a while, but once it stopped, West Indies continued their domination and picked up wickets at regular intervals. Despite a brief resistance from Ravindra Jadeja and Suryakumar Yadav, the Windies churned out the last 5 wickets quickly and bundled the visitors for a paltry 181.

Windies keep their calm to level the series

On a sluggish track, West Indies started the chase on a strong note. The opening duo of Brandon King and Kyle Mayers added 53 for the opening wicket and laid a strong foundation for a famous win. However, two wickets in rapid successions changed the complexion of the game.

Shimron Hetmyer's departure for 9 put the West Indies in a complicated situation. However, skipper Shai Hope, once again stood like a brick wall and slowly started the repair work. Alongside Keacy Carty, Hope made sure that they negotiated the difficult phase as the Indian bowlers tried all permutations and combinations to churn out a wicket.

Hope played a gritty and a patient knock and notched up his 24th fifty in ODI cricket. His knock ensured that the target of 181 was eventually achieved with 80 balls to spare.

For India, Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets, but that wasn't enough to help India clinch the series.
