The IPL will pause its celebratory tone to honour the victims of the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on Tuesday, April 22. 

The attack, which occurred at the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam, was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), an affiliate of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The assault has drawn widespread condemnation both domestically and internationally.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a series of tributes during today’s clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

So as the players entered for the toss, they were seen wearing black armbands, in this article let's take a look at the reason why the players have don black armbands.

Why Are Players Wearing Black Armbands Today?

Players from both teams are wearing black armbands during the match as a mark of mourning and solidarity with the victims and their families. A minute’s silence was also observed before the first ball being bowled. 

In a further show of respect, the BCCI has decided to forgo all celebratory elements for the evening. There will be no cheerleaders, fireworks, or any form of in-game entertainment typically associated with the IPL’s vibrant atmosphere.

SRH vs MI's Tournament So Far

Despite the somber circumstances, cricket continues, with Mumbai Indians entering the match with some confidence under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. The five-time champions have secured three clinical victories in their last three matches, finding momentum at a crucial point in the season.

In contrast, the SRH have struggled to find consistency. With only two wins from seven matches, they are under immense pressure to bounce back.
