The fourth Test match of the India tour of England 2025 will be etched in the history books for the fight the visitors showed under pressure. The efforts by Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja deserve special mention for the grit and patience they displayed on the final day of the game.
Towards the end of the match, the English team wanted to shake hands and leave the field, accepting it as a draw. However, the Indian team was not willing to leave the field, as the two batters in the middle were nearing their respective centuries.
As Stokes went and offered to shake hands with Jadeja, the Indian all-rounder refused. This irked the England skipper, and he did not shy away from expressing his annoyance.
Stokes Vents His Frustration At Jadeja
In a video released by Starsports after the match, one can see Stokes trying to convince Jadeja about ending the game. But Test centuries are hard to come by, and the Indian batter was not ready to give it up just for the sake of it.
The stump mic caught Stokes saying: "If you wanted a 100, you should have batted like that earlier. You want to score a Test century against Ben Duckett and Harry Brook? Shake hands and get done with it man."
The frustration was evident in Stokes. Although Jadeja denied having the power to make the decision throughout the conversation.
The Indian all-rounder: " I can't do anything. What do you want me to do?"
As Jadeja said this, he pointed to the dressing room and said that it was up to the team management to decide whether they wanted to play at that moment.
Sundar And Jadeja Reached Their Respective Test 100s
Notably, Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 107 off 185 deliveries. This is the fifth Test century of his career. At the other end, Washington Sundar also reached his maiden Test hundred and remained unbeaten on 101 off 206 balls.
The series between England and India is currently poised very delicately. The home team leads the series by a 2-1 margin after four matches, with the last game remaining to be played at the Oval.
