Kane Williamson pulled off a spectacular one-handed catch to dismiss Axar Patel for 42 runs off 61 balls in the India vs New Zealand group-stage match of the Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 2. The catch came at a crucial moment, breaking a strong partnership and shifting momentum in New Zealand’s favour.
Rachin Ravindra Strikes For New Zealand
India were looking steady with Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer building a solid 98-run partnership. However, in the 30th over, Rachin Ravindra managed to break the stand with a well-executed delivery. He bowled a slightly short ball that spun into the middle and leg. Axar, positioned deep in the crease, attempted to guide it toward the leg side but was caught off guard by the extra bounce. The ball took a top edge and lobbed toward short fine leg.
Kane Williamson, stationed there, reacted swiftly. He judged the ball’s trajectory perfectly, backtracked a bit, and jumped high to grab it with just one hand.
