It was the Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2023, with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh going against each other in Colombo and the former emerging victorious by 21 runs in the game's final stages. However, a massive moment in the game caught a lot of attention that happened during the 48th over of the Bangladesh chase when an extraordinary fielding effort couldn't get the third umpire's approval.

227 for nine down, the Tigers needed some boundaries as they were behind the target of 258 with 47.2 overs already bowled. Batter Nasum Ahmed was on strike who slammed spinner Maheesh Theekshana to the long-on region, but substitute fielder Dushan Hemantha intercepted the ball with his athleticism as he jumped over the boundary to pull the ball back into the field of play while he himself was in the air.

He immediately got up and returned to the boundary line to pick up and throw the ball back. Later, the on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire, who, after several replays, declared it a six as, according to him, the fielder's last point of contact was with the boundary line before he jumped in the air.

Confusion was all around, but the correct decision was finally made that gave the Bangladesh side six runs.

However, it didn't had much impact on the game as four balls later, Matheesha Pathirana knocked the stumps with a perfect yorker to dismiss the final batter and seal the victory and crucial points for Sri Lanka by a margin of 21 runs.
