Kumar Sangakkara Rewinds The Clock With a Magnificent Century
Kumar Sangakkara, who will serve as the director of cricket at Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after previously serving as the head coach of the franchise for four seasons, is doing wonders with the bat for Sri Lanka Masters in the ongoing International Masters League T20 (IML) 2025.
The match that took place in Raipur saw the England Masters putting 146 on the board losing five wickets as they completed their 20 overs. Phil Mustard scored a 39-ball 50 while the Sri Lankan bowlers were consistent with their line and length.
Chasing 147 for victory, Sri Lanka were spot on with their batting, as the single man show from Sangakkara changed the course of the game all of a sudden.
The English Masters side, led by Eoin Morgan, were no longer in contention in the game as Sangakkara took the game away from them right from the start. Sangakkara's opening partner, Romesh Kaluwitharana, was dismissed on the first delivery of the 10th over when the side's score was 108, while he could only face 18 deliveries for his 16 runs.
On the other hand, Sangakkara was running away with the game as he was at that stage with 86 not out off just 37 deliveries. Later, he completed his century with a single on the third delivery of the 13th over against Monty Panesar.
And one delivery later, he smashed the English left-arm spinner for a massive six, using his feet coming down the track to win the game for his side. He ended his innings on 106* from 47 deliveries with a single six and 19 whopping boundaries in his knock, as his strike rate was 225.53.
The Sri Lankan side won the game in 12.5 overs thanks to Sangakkara's blazing knock, while Asela Gunaratne was equally supportive with a 12-ball 22*.
