The Manchester Originals women are playing against the Welsh Fire women are playing in the third match of the Women's Hundred 2024. This match is taking place at the Emirates Stadium in Manchester. 

The Originals won the toss and opted to bat first in the game. Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney gave a good start to the team and laid the foundation for the big-hitters to come later in the innings. 


Manchester lose their way after a good start

However, the Originals lost the plot after the departure of Wolvaardt. In a span of 27 deliveries, the Originals lost four wickets for just 20 runs. They needed a strong finish to give themselves a competitive total. 

Sophie Ecclestone, the skipper for the Originals, did what was the need of the day in the 18 set of the innings. She slammed Hayley Matthews for a couple of maximums and gave them the momentum which was much needed at that stage of the innings. 

Ecclestone provides a strong finish to Manchester

On the second delivery of the set, Ecclestone slammed a full pitched delivery over long on for a maximum. In the next ball, she anticipated that Matthews would go short and was waiting on her back foot to pull the ball away over square leg for another maximum. 

Sophie Ecclestone played a fiery little cameo of 27 runs off 15 deliveries and helped the team reach a competitive total of 113/7 from their 100 deliveries.
