In the absence of star batters like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya against Australia in Mohali on Friday, Shreyas Iyer had the chance to perform against Australia. However, all Shreyas managed to bring to his devoted followers were disappointments, and of course he only had himself to blame.

Batting on 3 off 7 balls, Shreyas Iyer played Adam Zampa wide through cover in an attempt to take a single. However, the run was never on, and Shubman Gill knew about the fact. The 24-year-old immediately told Iyer to hold on, but the latter was so far out of the crease that he did not even get the chance to get back there.

To put an end to Iyer's stay, Josh Inglis broke the stumps after Cameron Green fired a bullet throw at the strikers’ end.


Considering India are still in search of their perfect No. 4 for the forthcoming ODI World Cup, it was Iyer's ideal opportunity to stay some time in the middle and prosper. However, he made a mess out of it.

It will be interesting to see where Iyer will come to bat in the next two ODIs.
