Sajeevan Sajana grabs spotlight with intense sendoff
West Indies captain and prolific all-rounder Hayley Matthews lofted Indian spinner Radha Yadav towards her off side, but failed to get the desired elevation behind it as she was caught out by Sajeevan Sajana at long-off.
As it turned out, Sajana celebrated Matthews’ downfall by giving her an overenthusiastic sendoff as the West Indies slipped to 62-3 in a tall chase of 218.
Earlier in the West Indies innings, Sajeevan Sajana dismissed West Indies opener Qiana Joseph for just 11 in the fourth powerplay over. The dashing all-rounder also smeared a boundary off the only delivery she faced to blaze Team India to 217-4.
For India, interim captain Smriti Mandhana smacked 77 regal runs from just 47 balls with 13 boundaries and a six. Middle-order batters Jemimah Rodrigues and Raghvi Bist also chipped in with swift 30s while wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh recorded the joint fastest-ever women’s T20I half-century.
In response, the West Indies managed to rally just 157-9 to go down by 60 runs. Indian left-arm spinner Radha Yadav claimed four wickets in the innings, which included the prized scalps of Hayley Matthews and Aaliyah Alleyne. Titas Sadhu, Deepti Sharma and new ball expert Renuka Singh Thakur also picked up a wicket each to orchestrate India’s 2-1 series triumph.
