Puneri Bappa captain Ruturaj Gaikwad recently trolled his ‘best friend’ and longtime Maharashtra teammate Azim Kazi during a MPL 2024 match on June 18.

Keeping the wickets against Ratnagiri Jets in match number 29 of the tournament, Gaikwad overtly got to Kazi’s face and celebrated the latter’s dismissal at the hands of Puneri Bappa spinner Rohan Kharat.

Gaikwad’s over-the-top celebration tactic even left Kazi in splits as the departing batter was spotted failing to control his laughter on camera.

Opening the batting for Ratnagiri Jets, Azim Kazi reached a confident 19* before an attempted slog off Puneri Bappa spinner Rohan Kharat accounted for his downfall.

Even before Kazi could comprehend his fate, Puneri Bappa wicketkeeper and his longtime Maharashtra teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad unfurled a hilarious over-the-top celebration by getting into the departing batter’s face.

Gaikwad’s moment of amusement even prompted Azim Kazi to break out his laugh as he was making his way back into the sheds.

Following the dismissal of Azim Kazi, his opening partner Dhiraj Phatangare, number three Kiran Chormale and wicketkeeper-batter Nikhil Naik punched out majestic knocks to take Ratnagiri Jets to a competitive 178-5 at the end of their 20 overs.

Chasing 179 for a win, Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Puneri Bappa managed to make just 172-9 to fall six runs short of their target. Gaikwad himself made an unbeaten 23 from 18 balls in Bappa’s unsuccessful run-chase.

Ratnagiri Jets’ six-run win helped them finish at the top of the MPL 2024 points table at the end of their share of league stage matches.

Meanwhile, Puneri Bappa is set to finish at the bottom of the six-team standings, as they coped seven defeats from their 10 league fixtures.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, captaining Puneri Bappa, also recently led the CSK franchise at the IPL 2024 season after legendary captain MS Dhoni relinquished his role prior to the tournament.
