Matthew Short gave a masterclass performance with the bat, smashing a stunning century during the 31st match of the Big Bash League (BBL) between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat on January 11. The Strikers’ skipper led from the front with an aggressive knock that kept fans on the edge of their seats at the Adelaide Oval.

Brisbane Heat won the toss and decided to bowl first. Opening for the Strikers, Matthew Short walked in alongside Chris Lynn. The pair looked solid at the crease, building a strong partnership. Lynn contributed a quick 47 runs before his dismissal by Matthew Kuhnemann broke their 121-run stand.

However, Short wasn’t done yet. He stayed calm and continued to attack the bowlers. With Adelaide’s season hanging in the balance, Short took charge and made sure to give his team a fighting chance.

Matthew Short Slams Blazing Century In No Time

Short reached his century in just 49 balls — the fastest-ever hundred by an Adelaide Strikers player in the BBL. The milestone came during the 15th over when Michael Neser bowled a short delivery, and Short pulled it to deep mid-wicket for a boundary, sparking wild celebrations from the home crowd.

The explosive knock had everything — classy strokes, power-hitting, and sheer determination. Short kept punishing the bowlers with his relentless batting, hitting boundaries and sixes with ease.

Short’s incredible innings came to an end when he fell to leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson. Attempting a slog sweep, Short mistimed the shot, and the fielder at deep mid-wicket made no mistake in taking the catch. He walked back to the pavilion after scoring a brilliant 109 off just 54 balls, including 10 fours and 7 sixes.

At the time of writing, Adelaide Strikers are at 214/4 in 17 overs, with Alex Ross and Jamie Overton at the crease.
