The San Francisco Unicorns took on the Seattle Orcas in the 18th match of the MLC 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. The Unicorns won the toss in this game and opted to field first.

This was an important game for the Orcas, as they needed to win this match in order to stay alive in the competition. On the other hand, the Unicorns had already qualified for the playoffs and were playing to ensure a spot in the top two of the league table.

A lot depended on the opening duo of the Orcas to give them a good start and get their innings going. Ryan Rickelton has been in great form in the tournament and had Aaron Jones as his opening partner in this match.

The Orcas were hoping that Ryan Rickelton would continue his rich vein of form and give them another solid start. But that was not to be the case, as Carmi le Roux had something else in mind. The left-arm pacer bowled a peach of a delivery to Rickelton first up and got his wicket off the first ball of the match.

Notably, in the previous fixture between the two teams, Ryan Rickelton played a straight drive back to the bowler of le Roux's bowling, which hit him on the head, and he had to walk out of the field, not being able to take further part in the competition. Although it was an accident, one can say that Le Roux had his revenge on today's dismissal of Rickelton.

However, le Roux did not stop there. He went to give another blow to the Orcas in the same overwhere. On the third delivery, he bowled a stunning inswinger to Aaron Jone, which made him dumbfounded, and he was found trapped in the crease.

The Orcas recovered from the initial blows, courtesy of Quinton de Kock (62 off 33) and Shehan Jayasuriya (31 off 33) and posted 152/7 in their 20 overs. However, the total was not enough as the Unicorns chased down the target led by Finn Allen (77 off 30), losing only four wickets with 34 deliveries remaining in the game.
